Implantologist will first do a thorough examination of the patient’s mouth. Based on this, he will recommend the best teeth restoration procedure. In cases of dental implant surgery, following instructions are to be followed:

  • Patient should be in good general health
  • Patient should discuss all his regular medications with the dentist as some medicines (especially anticoagulant medications such as Coumadin) may need to be stopped before surgery.
  • Patient may have a light meal before surgery.
  • Mouth and teeth should be thoroughly cleaned with brush and floss before surgery.
  • Patients under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Patient should wear loose and comfortable clothes preferably with short sleeves
  • Patient should not wear a tight collar, necktie or any tight jewellery in neck
  • Patient should make arrangement for a soft diet for a day or two following surgery.
  • Although patient can drive back to home, but it is advised to be driven back by someone else. So patient should make arrangement for this before surgery.
  • Patient should take a day off from work and any kind of strenuous activity like bending, lifting etc. should be completely avoided as it increase swelling and bleeding.
  • Any symptom like severe bleeding, swelling or pain should be immediately reported to the dentist.
  • A follow up visit should be made 7 days after the procedure or as advised by the Implantologist.
