A single tooth can be well replaced by one implant and one crown. It replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root. Single tooth replacement is a revolutionary treatment in comparison to the other common restoration treatment for a single tooth. One such treatment is a tooth-supported fixed bridge that requires grounding down of adjacent healthy teeth so as to support the cemented bridge. This procedure compromises with the healthy adjacent teeth that may become weak in future. An implant does not bother the surrounding teeth and gives better support and stability.
Single tooth implant procedure
The procedure is almost same in single or multiple tooth implant. A screw or cylinder shaped implant is placed in the jawbone. This time allows the implant and the bone to bond together to form a strong base for the artificial tooth. If required, a temporary tooth replacement can be done during this period.
Once the area has healed, the implant is uncovered and a small connector post called an abutment is attached into the implant. The abutment securely holds the new tooth. Now dentist takes an impression of the tooth/teeth to create a model of bite and make artificial tooth/teeth. A replacement artificial tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment.
